A Farewell to Tony Scott

It is with great sadness that we have learned that our dear friend Tony Scott has begun the final chapter of his life’s journey.

For many around the world, Tony was an extraordinary artist. A gifted rapper, songwriter, producer and performer whose music crossed genres and generations. To us, he was much more than that. He was family.

Tony had a genuine love for Amsterdam Funk Channel from the very beginning. He recorded station jingles for us, supported what we were building, and always made time for a conversation, a laugh, or simply sharing a cup of tea. Whether we met at his home in Weesp, where he proudly showed us his new place, or spent time together in the AFC studio, he was always warm, humble and full of stories.

Lesley Jones: One thing that will always stay with me is the way he connected with our beloved dog, Shiva. Animals have a remarkable way of sensing good people, and Shiva absolutely adored Tony. It was a friendship that needed no words. Only recently, we promised each other that we would spend another relaxing afternoon together aboard my boat. Sadly, that moment will never come. Like so many plans we make in life, we assume there will always be another opportunity. Sometimes there isn’t.

Fifty-four is far too young. There were undoubtedly countless songs still to be written, rhymes to be spit, places to visit, conversations to have, and memories yet to be made.

Tony leaves behind a musical legacy that will continue to inspire generations, but for those fortunate enough to have known him personally, it is his kindness, generosity and authenticity that will be remembered most.
